- As they left the apartment, officers spotted the 29-year-old male suspect in the hallway holding a box cutter; officers gave multiple verbal commands, one deployed a Taser, and another fired as he charged.
- The department said the incident is under standard investigative review as the NYPD Force Investigations Division examines the shooting; involved officers were evaluated at local hospitals and unharmed.
- NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said `This incident, once again, demonstrates the dangers that our police officers face every day, and how routine calls can quickly escalate into extremely dangerous situations,` as police shared a photo of the recovered box cutter.
