Police conclude search at religious group's HQ
Ten people were arrested and released on conditional bail as police continued a live investigation into alleged sexual offences, forced marriage and modern slavery.
- On Sunday, Cheshire Police concluded searches at Webb House in Crewe, releasing the religious group's headquarters back to residents after raids last week. Officers will maintain a uniformed presence in the area to provide reassurance.
- Cheshire Police executed raids on Wednesday, April 29, involving over 500 officers investigating allegations of sexual abuse, forced marriage, and modern slavery reported to have occurred in 2023. The operation targeted the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light community.
- Ten individuals were arrested during the operation, including the group's American leader Abdullah Hashem, with five receiving civil orders prohibiting them from entering Crewe or having unsupervised contact with children. All arrestees were of various nationalities.
- All 10 suspects have been released on conditional bail and are prohibited from returning to Webb House pending further enquiries. They are scheduled to appear before magistrates next month.
- Chief Superintendent Gareth Wrigley stated the investigation "solely focuses on the serious allegations" and is not an inquiry into the Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light, urging the public to avoid speculation during the ongoing case.
