UK police targeting organised crime make 17 arrests, investigate financial firms

The Metropolitan Police, HMRC, and the Financial Conduct Authority arrested 17 people during dawn raids on Tuesday. More than 800 officers searched 24 properties across London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Suffolk targeting an organised crime group.
During the raids in Cockfosters, Barnet, a police officer was stabbed in the leg while executing a warrant. The officer was taken to hospital; their injury is not life-changing, the Metropolitan Police said.
The Met said the Financial Conduct Authority has "disrupted" seven businesses and is "actively pursuing" another 30. This action reflects months of close cooperation between agencies tackling serious Money Laundering and organised crime.
Those arrested include 15 men and two women aged between 26 and 65. Suspects face charges of Participating in organised crime, Money Laundering, Cheating the public revenue, False accounting, and Conspiracy to commit GBH.
Searches are ongoing at a number of the properties with police presence expected for some days. The Metropolitan Police said these arrests mark a significant point in this investigation into serious organised crime.
