Chicago police take man in custody after shots fired outside federal building, no one was injured
Police responded to reports of shots fired and blocked off the area as investigators searched for evidence, officials said.
Chicago Police Department officers took a man into custody on Tuesday after he fired shots outside the John C. Kluczynski Federal Building in downtown Chicago, prompting a large multi-agency law enforcement response.
An FPS Protective Security Officer reported an active shooter on federal property at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Responding officers from the Department of Homeland Security and CPD secured the area.
Evidence markers revealed about 15 shell casings at the scene near South Dearborn Street. Minor damage was also reported to a nearby building in the 200 block of South Clark Street.
CPD officers recovered one firearm, and charges are pending against the suspect. No injuries were reported, with Area Three detectives continuing the investigation.
The Kluczynski Federal Building serves as an office tower housing the IRS, Social Security Administration, and Labor Department. It is located on Federal Plaza directly across from the Dirksen Federal Courthouse.
