Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman issued provisional suspension for whereabouts failures
Newman faces a provisional suspension for three missed drug tests in one year and denies doping, calling the issue administrative, not performance-enhancing drug use.
Following the AIU notice, Newman said 'I have never used a banned substance' in a statement sent to the Free Press on Thursday.
Newman said the misses reflected administrative burdens—travel, training, media and business commitments—not doping, and Athletics Canada noted it issues reminders but says athletes are responsible for submitting whereabouts.
Having last competed in the Diamond League in May, Newman says she has built a social media profile while pursuing modelling off the track.
Newman accepted the provisional suspension and will fully co-operate, as Penny Oleksiak received a two-year ban for three whereabouts failures.
The Athletics Integrity Unit lists five categories of whereabouts failures, including missing a 60-minute testing slot, while mandatory CADP education aims to address enforcement challenges.
