Break-in at Nanaimo Hobby Shop Nets Thief Almost $6,000 in Pokémon Cards
The thief took sealed Pokémon boxes and other items in 97 seconds, with losses estimated at up to $6,000, the owner said.
- At 3:50 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, a masked intruder smashed through the front door of All Elite Cards & Games on Bowen Road, stealing eight sealed Pokémon box sets worth up to $6,000 in under two minutes.
- Owner Allan Mah, who opened the shop two years ago, believes the thief knew the store layout and targeted the display case directly, suggesting the intruder had visited before.
- The stolen inventory included a Sword and Shield Evolving Skies booster box valued at about $3,361 and a Scarlet and Violet 151 trainer box worth $726, with six sealed sets representing over $5,000 in losses.
- Following the 911 call, Nanaimo RCMP arrived one minute after Mah and are investigating the theft while he remains on-site with plywood securing the storefront.
