Modi said the Centre would support relief as Andhra Pradesh reported heavy crop, road and power losses from two cyclones in a week.
- On Monday, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams officials implemented enhanced safety measures to ensure uninterrupted darshan following Cyclone Murasu, mandating tarpaulin shelters for Annaprasadam distribution and heightened medical vigilance for pilgrims.
- Severe cyclonic storm Murasu crossed the Andhra Pradesh coast near Ongole on Tuesday, claiming eight lives and affecting 465 villages across seven districts with widespread destruction.
- Preliminary assessments indicate the cyclone damaged crops across 1,43,122 hectares, affecting 1,86,063 farmers, while also destroying 10,000 electricity poles, 7,981 km of power lines, 983 houses, 346 boats, and 220 fishing nets.
- Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu visited inundated fields in Bapatla district on Friday to assess damage, estimating preliminary losses at ₹1,919 crore and requesting immediate interim financial assistance from the Centre.
- Restoration efforts continue with more than 3,000 electricity personnel from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana repairing damaged infrastructure, while Naidu emphasized that the Polavaram project remains essential to minimize future crop losses.
