PM Modi congratulates scientists, engineers at ISRO on successful launch of NVS-03
The 2,232 kg satellite restores NavIC to four working spacecraft and will improve position, navigation and timing services, ISRO said.
- On Friday, ISRO successfully launched the NVS-03 navigation satellite using a 50-metre GSLV rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, restoring India's NavIC system to its minimum operational configuration of four satellites.
- Government data indicated only three of the 11 constellation satellites remained fully functional before launch. The 2,232 kg NVS-03 satellite strengthens India's sovereign navigation infrastructure, providing Position, Navigation, and Timing services across the nation and 1,500 km beyond.
- Following an 18-minute flight, the GSLV precisely injected NVS-03 into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit. Featuring an indigenous atomic clock, the satellite achieved the fastest turnaround time of 56 days between successive GSLV launches.
- ISRO Chief V Narayanan asserted that NavIC serves as a strategic national asset vital to the government's "one nation, one time" project. The infrastructure supports civilian services including real-time tracking of trains, vehicles, and shipping vessels.
- Union MoS for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent space reforms have bolstered India's indigenous capabilities. The launch vindicates the vision of founding fathers Vikram Sarabhai and Satish Dhawan.
