PKK urges Turkey to free Ocalan, warns peace process will halt
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) will take no further steps in indirect talks with Turkey as long as its founder Abdullah Ocalan remains imprisoned, said a senior commander. Since talks began last year, the PKK has complied with several peace process steps as Turkey prepares a legal framework for the group’s political integration.
"We have done what is asked of us. Now it is the turn of the Turkish state. There have been talks in Turkey, but no concrete progress... now we are waiting for the Turkish state to take action and take the next step," said Commander Amed Malazgirt, who has been demanding the release of Abdullah Ocalan.
Amed Malazgirt, a senior PKK figure, said that they would not take any further steps as part of the process unless the organization's leader, Öcalan, was released.
