Voyager to Acquire Lunar Lander Developer Astrobotic

The deal would expand Voyager’s defense and aerospace business as Astrobotic brings NASA contracts and early lunar payload sales.

  • On Tuesday, Denver-based Voyager Technologies announced an agreement to acquire Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic Technology for up to $300 million, with closing expected by early July 2026 subject to regulatory approvals.
  • Voyager aims to accelerate investment in Astrobotic's lunar and reusable rocket programs to support NASA's Artemis program, which commits to establishing a permanent American presence on the moon by 2028.
  • Founded in 2007, Astrobotic has won more than 60 contracts worth more than $600 million and operates from a 47,000 square foot headquarters in Pittsburgh while its Griffin lander targets late 2026 launch.
  • Upon closing, Astrobotic's Pittsburgh headquarters will become the center of Voyager's lunar program. Astrobotic CEO John Thornton said, "Joining Voyager provides the scale, resources, and long-term commitment our mission calls for."
  • Combined operations will integrate Astrobotic's LunaGrid solar distribution system and Voyager's recent Max Space investment in expandable habitats, spanning mission management, communications, propulsion, and long-duration lunar operations.
