Voyager to Acquire Lunar Lander Developer Astrobotic
The deal would expand Voyager’s defense and aerospace business as Astrobotic brings NASA contracts and early lunar payload sales.
On Tuesday, Denver-based Voyager Technologies announced an agreement to acquire Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic Technology for up to $300 million, with closing expected by early July 2026 subject to regulatory approvals.
Voyager aims to accelerate investment in Astrobotic's lunar and reusable rocket programs to support NASA's Artemis program, which commits to establishing a permanent American presence on the moon by 2028.
Founded in 2007, Astrobotic has won more than 60 contracts worth more than $600 million and operates from a 47,000 square foot headquarters in Pittsburgh while its Griffin lander targets late 2026 launch.
Upon closing, Astrobotic's Pittsburgh headquarters will become the center of Voyager's lunar program. Astrobotic CEO John Thornton said, "Joining Voyager provides the scale, resources, and long-term commitment our mission calls for."
Combined operations will integrate Astrobotic's LunaGrid solar distribution system and Voyager's recent Max Space investment in expandable habitats, spanning mission management, communications, propulsion, and long-duration lunar operations.
