Pirates Place Spencer Horwitz on the 10-Day Injured List
Horwitz left Wednesday’s win over Seattle after feeling discomfort, and Jack Brannigan was recalled from Double-A Altoona in a corresponding move.
On Thursday, the Pittsburgh Pirates placed first baseman Spencer Horwitz on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain sustained during Wednesday's 11-1 win against the Seattle Mariners.
Horwitz experienced a grabbing sensation in his leg while grounding into a third-inning double play, then left the game for a pinch-hitter in the fourth.
Before the injury, Horwitz posted a.280 average with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs in 74 games this season, maintaining a career.271 average with 34 homers and 131 RBIs.
In a corresponding roster move, the Pittsburgh Pirates recalled infielder Jack Brannigan from Double-A Altoona to fill the vacancy left by the injury.
The 25-year-old Brannigan, a 2022 third-round draft pick from Notre Dame, is poised to make his major league debut after hitting.235 with eight homers and 18 RBIs in 31 games at Altoona.
