The first look shows Frodo’s return and the Shire as the prequel continues filming with several returning stars and new cast members.

- Currently filming in New Zealand, the prequel is directed by and stars Andy Serkis as Gollum, recreating the charm of the original trilogy from 25 years ago.
- Returning cast members include Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, utilizing digital de-aging for the 45-year-old actor, alongside Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Lee Pace as Thranduil.
- Searching for Gollum, Aragorn and Gandalf take center stage in a script McKellen called an "adventure story" where Gandalf is "directing operations from the sidelines."
- With a release date of December 17, 2027, the film will debut in theaters on the same day as Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars.
