Phillies Announce Adolis Garcia News Before Brewers Series
The Phillies will use Derek Hill and Gabriel Rincones Jr. to cover right field after Adolis García was placed on the 60-day injured list.
On Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies placed starting right fielder Adolis Garcia on the 60-day injured list with a torn right lat muscle, sidelining him at least through mid-August.
Garcia sustained the injury on Wednesday during Philadelphia's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, doubling over in pain while attempting to throw out George Springer at home plate.
Before the injury, Garcia was batting.195 with seven homers in 67 games, leaving a void in right field previously held by Nick Castellanos after his spring release.
To address the vacancy, the Phillies recalled prospect Gabriel Rincones Jr. from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and added veteran outfielder Derek Hill, acquired from the Chicago White Sox.
Interim manager Don Mattingly plans to use Hill and Rincones in a right-field platoon, noting Hill brings speed and defensive versatility to address the team's outfield needs.
