Philadelphia DA to announce charges against 2 pastors in child abuse case
Authorities say the pastors groomed teenage boys for explicit videos and shared the images in a yearslong scheme.
On Tuesday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner announced charges against pastors Isaiah Banks, 30, and Bryan Jackson, 42, for creating child pornography and sexually exploiting minors through a yearslong scheme.
An investigation began in April after the Department of Human Services reported that Banks had solicited explicit videos from a minor via text messages in exchange for money or food.
Prosecutors say Banks groomed multiple minors and shared the pornography with Jackson, who "directly communicated with these children for the purpose of getting more videos," according to Assistant District Attorney Helena von Nagy.
Both men posted bail—$600,000 for Banks and $100,000 for Jackson—and await preliminary hearings, prompting LaQuisha Anthony, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Center Against Sexual Violence , to call the allegations "profoundly disturbing."
District Attorney Larry Krasner characterized the investigation as "not complete" and encouraged potential victims to contact the Philadelphia Police Department's Special Victims Unit at 215-685-3251 as authorities pursue additional charges.
