Polluted rivers spark protest
The People's Network for the Protection of the Kok, Sai, Ruak and Mekong rivers on Monday protested outside the Myanmar Consulate-General in Chiang Mai, calling for action over mining-related pollution in Myanmar that has affected several rivers in northern Thailand.
"Phatthapong", a Chiang Mai MP from the People's Party, urged attention to the "Thailand-Myanmar" agreement on polluted rivers in tomorrow's cabinet meeting. He pointed out that for a full year, villagers along the Kok River have had to endure arsenic contamination and hoped the government would stop being so accommodating to Myanmar.
