PGMO apologise to Forest, saying Cunha goal for Man United should not have counted
PGMO said the goal should not have stood after Bryan Mbeumo handled the ball in the buildup, with United winning 3-2.
On Monday, Professional Game Match Officials Limited referee boss Howard Webb apologized to Nottingham Forest, admitting Matheus Cunha's goal in Sunday's match should have been disallowed for handball.
Referee Michael Salisbury allowed the 54th-minute goal to stand after reviewing a pitch-side monitor, concluding Bryan Mbeumo's contact was accidental despite VAR's differing judgment on the handball.
Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira said, "For me, it was handball, very clear. It is sad not to cancel the goal," while Sky Sports pundit Neville called it "a no-brainer" from 60 yards away.
United's 3-2 victory ended Forest's eight-game unbeaten run, though the result had minimal impact on league standings as United had already secured a Champions League berth and Forest avoided relegation.
Pereira called for clearer rules, citing persistent doubts among managers about handball decisions, as a 2021 rule change permits accidental handball when no direct goal-scoring action follows from the player who handled.
