Petrol Bombs Thrown at Police Car by Masked Men in Tyrone
Police said the attack caused minor damage and could have seriously injured officers or nearby residents.
On Saturday evening, a Police Service of Northern Ireland vehicle was attacked with petrol bombs in Strabane, County Tyrone, while officers patrolled the Ballycolman Estate area shortly after 5pm.
Three masked males dressed in black each threw a petrol bomb at the passenger side of the patrol vehicle as it passed through the residential area.
Despite only minor damage to the vehicle, Chief Inspector Cherith Craig described the incident as a "totally reckless attack," warning it "could have resulted in serious injuries to the officers or to nearby members of the public."
An investigation is underway and police are appealing for witnesses to contact authorities on 101, quoting reference number 1073 to assist with inquiries.
Craig stated "attacks on police are unacceptable and must not be tolerated," emphasizing that officers remain committed to helping communities and responding to calls for assistance across Northern Ireland.
