Peter Murrell Due Back in Court Today Ahead of Sentencing over £400k Embezzlement
The hearing will help establish the facts behind Murrell’s guilty plea and could shape mitigation ahead of his sentencing, which is set for later this month.
On Tuesday, Peter Murrell returned to the High Court in Edinburgh for a "narrative hearing" to establish facts surrounding his admitted embezzlement of more than £400,000 from the SNP.
Murrell pleaded guilty last week to embezzling party funds between 2010 and 2022, spending the money on luxury items including a Jaguar I-Pace costing £81,277 and a motorhome worth £124,550.
Legal teams have yet to reach an agreement on the "version of events," prompting Judge Lord Young to schedule this hearing after describing the embezzlement as a "gross breach of trust."
Former SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said she was "deceived, misled and betrayed," claiming she feels like she is "serving a sentence for a crime I did not commit."
Sentencing is scheduled for June 23, 2026, as the Crown Office has advised Nationalists to avoid public commentary on the case, citing it remains "sub judice" and should be "avoided.
