1 Killed in Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu
Authorities said the driver showed no signs of DUI as investigators examine why the SUV crossed onto the shoulder.
On Oct. 3, 2026, a 16-year-old driving a Range Rover struck a parked car on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, killing the lone occupant around 6:50 a.m. in the 22600 block.
Investigations revealed the driver was traveling at least 50 mph when he swerved across the "fog line" on PCH; the Los Angeles County Sheriff found no signs of DUI.
Authorities identified the victim as Ryo Uchimiya, a 51-year-old Nobu Malibu employee who arrived early for work and was waiting in his parked car when the Range Rover SUV struck him.
With no charges filed, the crash remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff, and officials stated that drug or alcohol use does not appear to be a factor.
PCH's 21-mile stretch through Malibu is considered one of the state's deadliest roads, recording about four crash-related fatalities annually over the last decade.
