Penticton Peach Festival cancels parade to accommodate emergency response for nearby wildfire
Organizers said the parade was canceled to keep emergency routes open as 10,000 evacuees arrived from Summerland, Mayor Julius Bloomfield said.

- Thousands of residents fled the Bald Range wildfire on Friday, with roughly 25 per cent of Summerland's population arriving in Penticton overnight. Penticton Mayor Julius Bloomfield noted, "It was a rush of 10,000 people coming into the city."
- Residents donated food, water, blankets, and bedding as evacuees sheltered at the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and the Sportsplex. Bloomfield described the community response as an "outpour of support."
- Other Peach Festival programming remains open despite the parade cancellation. Shooting Star Amusements is "offering discounted ride wristbands, providing families with an opportunity to enjoy the midway at a reduced cost."
- Organizers are actively monitoring public safety needs and will communicate any schedule changes via social media. The festival stated, "Any further changes to festival programming will be communicated through our official social media channels.
