Dominion Energy Files Lawsuit, Says Offshore Wind Pause Costing over $5 Million a Day
Dominion Energy says the federal stop-work order on its offshore wind project costs over $5 million daily and risks increased expenses and energy reliability problems.
- On Tuesday, Dominion Energy Virginia and OSW Project LLC filed a complaint and motion for a temporary restraining order in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Norfolk Division, asking a judge to block the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management stop-work order.
- Earlier this week, a federal directive paused work on five major offshore wind projects as administration officials said the pause was needed to reassess national security concerns, including radar interference.
- Dominion noted immediate daily losses of more than $5 million in vessel costs and additional expenses, having spent approximately $8.9 billion on Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, about 50% complete.
- The company asked the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia to preserve the status quo and may seek a preliminary injunction, while a judge has not yet ruled and Virginia lawmakers warn of job losses.
- CVOW is located about 27 to 44 miles off the Virginia coast and is expected to generate up to 2,600 megawatts, serving military installations, shipbuilding, AI, and cloud data centers.
