Pennsylvania teen's CPR training saves grandfather's life
Layla Gallagher was honored after using CPR training to keep her grandfather alive until paramedics arrived, officials said.
- On April 1, 16-year-old Layla Gallagher saved her grandfather, Ken Leitch, using CPR after finding him unconscious in their Avis, Pennsylvania home and calling 911.
- Gallagher, who aspires to be a trauma nurse, was in her last week of CPR certification training when she discovered Leitch in the laundry room after returning home with her grandmother.
- Leitch, 66, suffered a heart attack caused by a 100% blockage in his left artery and spent a week in a medically induced coma before waking up almost a week later.
- Clinton County Commissioners honored Gallagher for her heroic actions, recognizing her bravery while noting Leitch's 24 years of Air Force service and 50 years as a volunteer firefighter at Station 8 Fire Hall.
- Leitch urged others to pursue CPR training, stating, "If you have a chance to take it, take it; everybody should at least do it. It could be a lifesaver.
