Pedestrian dies after multiple vehicle crash on M6 Warrington

The M6 northbound closure between junctions 21 and 21A followed a fatal collision involving two lorries and four cars, with police investigating the circumstances.

  • On Saturday, March 7, Cheshire Police said officers were called at around 2.50am to a serious collision on the M6 between junctions 21 and 21A near Warrington where a pedestrian was struck by several vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.
  • At 2.52am, Cheshire Police ordered a full closure of the M6 northbound between junctions 21 and 21A and requested National Highways' help while Traffic Officers maintained closure points overnight.
  • Traffic monitors report the crash involved two lorries and four cars, and National Highways directed trapped traffic to be turned around with a diversion route via Leyland, Lostock Hall and Preston.
  • There is currently no estimated reopening time for the motorway, so Lancashire Police confirmed the M6 northbound between junctions 28 and 30 closed from around 6am and urged motorists to find alternative routes.
  • Cheshire Police is now appealing for information and asking witnesses to contact them quoting IML 2284032, while a forensic team has closed the north side of Tebay Services, Cumbria, with Westmorland apologising for any inconvenience.
