AZERBAIJAN, AUG 8 – The agreement ends a 35-year conflict, opens diplomatic ties, and grants the US exclusive rights to a transit corridor attracting nine companies, including three from the US.
- At the White House on Friday, US President Donald Trump oversaw the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, ending hostilities and affirming territorial integrity.
- Amid a decades-old dispute, Nagorno-Karabakh broke away from Azerbaijan, prompting almost all of its 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee.
- Armenia and Azerbaijan agreed to end fighting, open diplomatic relations, respect territorial integrity, and the deal grants the US exclusive development rights to a transit corridor in the South Caucasus.
- After the ceremony, restrictions on US defense cooperation with Azerbaijan were lifted, and both Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan said they will nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
