Nigeria: PDP Issues Expulsion Certificates to Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Eight Others
The PDP expelled 11 members including key leaders, issuing certificates to prevent dual party membership and inform electoral and security agencies, party officials said.
- On Tuesday, Kabiru Turaki, National Chairperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, announced the PDP issued and couriered certificates of expulsion to Nyesom Wike and 10 others after an NWC meeting in Abuja.
- The motion to expel was moved by Bode George, former National Deputy Chairperson of the PDP , at the National Convention of the PDP , and the party said the expulsions followed the PDP constitution granting the convention supreme disciplinary authority.
- Other senior figures issued certificates include Ayodele Fayose, former Ekiti State governor, Samuel Anyanwu, former National Secretary, and state PDP chairpersons Austin Nwachukwu and Abraham Amah.
- The party said the certificates aim to notify Independent National Electoral Commission , security agencies and the public of the individuals' non‑membership, and help expelled members prove registration with other political parties in Nigeria, as Nigerian law frowns on dual party membership.
- Amid objections, the PDP says it is refocusing on rebuilding and offering credible opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite governors' rejection of the expulsions.
