Sir Paul McCartney Compares Taylor Swift to the Beatles
McCartney said Swift’s global stardom matches the hysteria that surrounded The Beatles and praised her and other pop stars after meeting them at a party.
On Sunday, Sir Paul McCartney compared Taylor Swift's 'worldwide fame' to the fan frenzy of Beatlemania during a BBC Sounds interview, admitting he sees a 'parallel' between Swift's global stardom and The Beatles' mid-1960s hysteria.
BBC journalist Vernon Kay asked McCartney during Tracks Of My Years whether he would advise Swift, who appears to have accomplished the same level of fame; McCartney replied she doesn't need guidance but positioned himself as 'the older brother to that generation, or more like the grandad' if asked.
Swift surpassed The Beatles' chart record last October by placing seven songs simultaneously on the United World Top 10, while the Liverpudlian band sold over 600 million albums and hold the most No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
McCartney revealed he met Swift at a party organized by his wife Nancy Shevell and daughter, fashion designer Stella McCartney, alongside Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter, praising them as 'really cool people' and 'very good' performers.
McCartney's reflections reveal how fame has shifted since John Lennon called The Beatles 'bigger than Jesus' in 1966; today McCartney refuses selfies, explaining on The Rest Is Entertainment podcast how he learned to 'deal with' modern celebrity culture after decades in the spotlight.
