Video Shows Police Officer Accidentally Shot by Fellow Cop in 'Horseplay' Incident in Pasadena, California
On Wednesday, the Pasadena Police Department released dashcam video showing a September 7, 2025, incident where an officer was shot by a colleague in a parking garage during what the police chief described as "horseplay."
Police Chief Gene Harris stated the shooting resulted from officers engaging in unsafe, out-of-policy "horseplay" involving loaded firearms before their shifts. Footage captures one officer pointing a gun at a cruiser before the driver's weapon discharged.
At 240 Ramona St. in Pasadena, the round smashed through the cruiser's windshield and struck the officer in the shoulder. Harris reported the injured officer sustained serious injuries and has since recovered.
Harris invoked a state law exception to delay the video's release for nearly 10 months, citing an active investigation. Disciplinary measures were taken following an administrative investigation, though specifics were not disclosed.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney and the Pasadena Police Department continue investigating the shooting, evaluating camera footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence to ensure accountability.
