Parents of missing Auburn student ask for help reaching people in Japan as search continues
Police and volunteers are checking stations and trails as his family urges residents to share leads and contact authorities directly.
Search for Auburn University student James "Weston" Higginbotham continues in Japan, with authorities narrowing his last known location to Yamashina Station on May 29.
Higginbotham, a 20-year-old environmental engineering student from Alabama, disappeared while traveling with his family in Kyoto after his phone lost network service at 8:29 p.m. on May 29.
On Wednesday, authorities deployed around 50 police officers, K-9 teams, and helicopters to search woodland areas near Yamashina, though no trace of him was found.
Nancy Higginbotham publicly urged assistance, stating the family's "ultimate goal is to find our son" while asking people to contact police with information.
Severe weather, including tropical storm Storm Jangmi, has complicated search efforts as the family coordinates with local volunteers and officials to locate the missing student.
