WEST BANK, PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES, AUG 3 – Protesters highlighted the rising number of Palestinian detainees and humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with many government employees given leave to join demonstrations, organizers said.
- On August 3, Palestinians across the West Bank protested in Ramallah, Nablus, and Hebron against the Gaza war and support for detainees.
- The Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs says detentions have skyrocketed after the Gaza war began and Israel has heavily restricted aid into Gaza.
- In a vivid display, protesters dressed as skeletons and carried dolls to symbolize the war’s effect on children at risk of malnutrition, with many carrying photos of Palestinians killed or imprisoned and warnings of a “famine is unfolding.”
- Tagreed Ziada, a 39-year-old protester, said the march aimed to support Gaza and hungry children, while Thaer Shriteh told AFP that the international community is complicit unless it intervenes quickly.
