Pakistan Launches Its Second Indigenous Earth Observation Satellite From China

EO-2 enhances Pakistan’s satellite fleet with improved data for governance, natural resource and disaster management, reflecting growing self-reliance in space technology, Suparco said.

  • On Thursday, the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission announced Pakistan successfully launched its second indigenous Electro-Optical satellite, EO-2, from Yangjiang Seashore Launch Centre, China, marking a milestone in national satellite capabilities.
  • Developed domestically at SUPARCO's Satellite Research and Development Centre, EO-2 follows a 2025 cooperation agreement with the China Manned Space Agency and builds on last year's EO-1 launch from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.
  • Engineered to complement EO-1, EO-2 operates jointly to enhance imaging continuity and analytical accuracy while observing Earth under varied illumination for national high-resolution imagery.
  • The launch expands Pakistan's fleet, strengthening Pakistan's Earth observation fleet and improving data for national development planning, natural resource management, environmental monitoring, disaster management, and climate analysis.
  • Earlier this week, two shortlisted Pakistani astronaut candidates began training under the cooperation agreement February 2025, underscoring China–Pakistan space collaboration, SUPARCO said.
