Authorities evacuated over one million people as three major rivers simultaneously flooded, submerging more than 1,600 villages and destroying crops in Punjab's worst flood emergency in decades.
- This week, Pakistani authorities evacuated more than 1.1 million people from homes in Punjab province as floodwaters submerged 1,652 villages near the Sutlej, Chenab and Ravi rivers.
- Officials blamed a mix of heavy rains and excess upstream water from Indian dams, swelling the Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers and triggering unprecedented flooding as weather systems converged over Pakistan.
- So far, 1,147,000 residents have been rescued, nearly 700 relief and 265 medical camps established, and rescue operations with 2,061 personnel and 176 vehicles saved more than 5,500 people, aided by over 9,000 Civil Defence volunteers.
