UNITED KINGDOM, AUG 6 – Salman Iftikhar was sentenced to 15 months for sustained racist abuse and death threats against Virgin Atlantic crew during an eight-hour flight, forcing a crew member to take 14 months off work.
- On February 7, 2023, Salman Iftikhar, 37-year-old recruitment director, launched a tirade aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight from London Heathrow to Lahore, threatening to gang rape stewardess Angie Walsh and set her alight at 39,000 feet.
- After downing champagne at the onboard bar, Iftikhar helped himself to ice with his hands and refused to return to his seat, shouting racist insults, prosecutor Abdul Kapadia said.
- Amid the threats, cabin crew considered diverting the flight to Turkey after Iftikhar threatened to blow up the floor of the Avari Lahore Hotel and warned Walsh she 'will be dead on the floor of your hotel'.
- On Tuesday, Iftikhar was sentenced to 15 months in prison for his 'appalling and sustained abuse' of cabin crew, with he wept in the dock.
- Virgin Atlantic stated it maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward abusive behaviour, and Walsh said the incident forced her to take 14 months off work.
