‘How Intelligence-Led Operations Aided Rescue of Abducted Oriire Victims’
Security forces said intelligence work and arrests of relatives forced the kidnappers to abandon the pupils and teachers, while eight suspects were arrested.
- Security forces rescued 38 schoolchildren and six teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State, after rejecting a hostage exchange proposal from the terrorists.
- Before the rescue, kidnappers demanded the release of Ansaru leaders Mahmud Usman and Abubakar Abba , plus ransom, Hilux vehicles, and implementation of Sharia-related laws.
- Sustained intelligence gathering by the DSS enabled identification and arrest of the terrorists' wives and children across the country, pressuring kidnappers to soften their demands and abandon leverage.
- Following rejection of their exchange offer, terrorists abandoned the victims in the National Park forest and attempted to flee but were routed by troops in a final assault.
- Security sources confirmed that investigations into the abduction continue in Abuja, with innocent relatives to be released while those found participating in criminal activities will face prosecution.
