A petition to toughen penalties for animal cruelty has been signed by nearly 65,000 residents, says the author of the initiative, public activist Salvija Buzelienė. The authors of the petition demand that animal cruelty should be punishable by at least 2 years in prison, and the right to keep an animal should be restricted permanently. “We are now advocating for increasing the prison sentence from 2 years and a fine from 6,000 euros.
