A widespread power outage is blanketing the New Orleans area, affecting more than 43,500 Entergy customers on one of the hottest days of the season so far.

A widespread power outage left more than 51,000 customers without power Sunday afternoon across parts of New Orleans, according to Entergy’s online outage map.

The outage map is reporting more than 50,000 people without power in many areas including Uptown, Mid-City and Lakeview.

Power has been restored for most of the area after a major outage across the city. A spokesperson with Entergy said the cause of the outage was due to a load-shed order from MISO. Around 4:50 p.m. on Sunday, it was reported that more than 18,000 people in the Uptown area lost power.
