Dutch Coast Guard Rescues 32 Hypothermic Mudflat Walkers with Helicopter and Lifeboats Near Ameland.
Dozens of runners attempting to cross between the various Dutch Wadden Islands ran into trouble when the water suddenly rose faster than expected. The coast guard rescued the hypothermic runners with a helicopter and nine lifeboats.
Several mudflat walkers got into trouble on the mudflats near Ameland on Sunday. The group was caught off guard by the rising tide, prompting a call for emergency services. Rescue boats and a helicopter were deployed to safely remove the stranded walkers from the mudflats. No one was injured.
A group of 33 mudflat walkers was safely brought ashore on Sunday morning after getting into trouble on the mudflats near Ameland. Around 8:30 a.m., the last eight people were taken aboard a lifeboat and sailed to Ameland.
Rescue boats were deployed, but due to low water levels, they could not get close. Therefore, the helicopter was sent into the air.
