'Our Whole World Has Been Shattered' - Family Name 22-Year-Old Killed in A1 Crash
Police said a witness appeal continues as investigators review dashcam and CCTV footage after the crash closed the A1 for about nine hours.
On Sunday, October 18, 22-year-old Erin Bennett died in a three-vehicle collision on the A1 near Felton in Northumberland. Bennett, a criminology and psychology graduate, had recently secured her "dream job" as a detective with Northumbria Police.
Northumbria Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit launched an investigation into the three-vehicle crash involving a white Nissan Qashqai, a red Renault Clio, and a white Tesla. Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage to "determine the full circumstances."
Bennett's family paid tribute to their "caring, thoughtful" daughter, stating their "world has been shattered beyond belief." Her boyfriend, Craig, described her as the "light of my life."
Anyone with information or footage should contact Northumbria Police via their website or by calling 101, quoting reference NP-20261018-0441. Sergeant Greg Huntley of Northumbria Police confirmed the force is offering support to the family.
This incident follows six fatalities on the same A1 stretch in May and June, prompting ChronicleLive to launch the "Dual the A1 and save lives" campaign. Politicians and community groups are working to demand improvements to the major road.
