Wisconsin DOJ: One Dead in Officer Involved Shooting with Oshkosh Police Officer
The man was taken to a hospital as investigators with the Wisconsin Department of Justice review the officer-involved shooting.
On Sunday, May 10, 2026, an Oshkosh Police Department officer shot and killed an armed man outside the Fleet Farm on North Washburn Street, with the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation now reviewing the incident.
Responding to a reported firearm theft at the store around 8:18 a.m., an officer encountered a male subject in the parking lot who allegedly refused commands, continued walking toward the officer, and retrieved a handgun from his waistband.
The officer discharged their weapon, striking the man, who was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, though no bystanders or law enforcement officers suffered injuries during the confrontation, according to the DCI.
Placed on paid administrative leave per department policy, the involved officer wore a body-worn camera during the incident, which is now under investigation by the DCI with support from state and local agencies.
Authorities confirmed there is no active threat to the community and no other suspects are believed involved; the DCI will submit its findings to the Winnebago County District Attorney's Office for review once the investigation concludes.
