Organizers say a new civilian-led aid flotilla with over 100 boats will sail to Gaza in March
The flotilla aims to deliver aid and deploy 1,000 health professionals to Gaza, challenging Israel’s naval blockade with over 100 boats and thousands of participants, organizers said.
- On Feb 5, organizers at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg announced a March flotilla plan, hoping to bring 100 boats for the attempt.
- During the October 2025 interception, Israeli forces halted roughly 40 boats and detained over 450 participants, including Greta Thunberg, after last year's mission mobilized about 50 vessels and 500 activists.
- The campaign will launch from Spain, Tunisia and Italy with more than 1,000 activists including medical doctors, war crimes investigators and engineers, supported by a land convoy through Tunisia and Egypt.
- Organizers warned the flotilla may be blocked but still serve its purpose, citing an International Court of Justice provisional ruling while Israeli officials criticized past missions as publicity stunts.
- Humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where over two million residents live, remain dire, despite UN offloading hundreds of thousands of pallets; Israeli forces control more than 53% of Gaza.
