OPP investigating separate drownings, including 3-year-old near Cornwall
On Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police reported two people died in separate drownings in eastern Ontario, killing a three-year-old at Mille Roches Beach and a 24-year-old kayaker at Wasaga Beach.
This year, drownings in eastern Ontario more than doubled, prompting provincial police to raise awareness about water safety.
At 5:45 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police said emergency services were called to Mille Roches Beach, where the child was rushed to hospital, pronounced dead and whose identity is withheld.
Ontario Provincial Police said they are investigating the Long Sault drowning, and the Wasaga Beach Fire Department located the kayaker and attempted resuscitation before he was declared dead.
Last week, another three-year-old drowned at Sandbanks Provincial Park in a shallow area, underscoring recurring drowning risks for children at popular spots.
