Opensignal lança O Primeiro Mapa Interativo De Conexões D2D Do Mundo
The map uses billions of real-world measurements and will update monthly as D2D adoption grows, Opensignal said.
- On Monday, October 12, 2026, Opensignal launched the D2D Satellite Map, the world's first interactive tool tracking where smartphones connect directly to satellites globally since January 2026.
- Direct-to-Device technology extends mobile coverage to remote areas where terrestrial networks cannot reach, yet the industry previously lacked clear data on where consumer adoption was actually gaining momentum.
- Data from the map reveals activity in only six countries: the US, Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, Peru, and New Zealand. Lian Carl, VP of product management at Opensignal, said, "The grand majority, over 90%, are Starlink connections."
- This 1.0 release faces limitations: the tool excludes iPhone data because Apple restricts third-party software access, and some detected connections may reflect transient activity rather than serious usage.
- Opensignal plans monthly updates surfacing usage data by provider and type as D2D services mature, tracking connection performance similar to its mobile network analyses.
