OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank plan five new AI data centers for $500 billion Stargate project

The $500 billion Stargate program aims for 10 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2025, creating over 25,000 onsite jobs and powering millions of homes, officials said.

  • Stargate, a joint venture between OpenAI, Oracle, and Softbank, is building data centers in Texas, New Mexico, Ohio, and another undisclosed Midwest location.
  • Oracle executives stated that the data center complex is on track to become the world's largest AI supercluster.
  • OpenAI's Sam Altman remarked that users do not consider the operations inside the data halls that support ChatGPT.
  • Residents have mixed feelings about the project, particularly regarding its water and energy needs, although Magouyrk confirmed that the centers are designed to not use water.
