OpenAI eyes potential $500 billion data center on federal land in Ohio: Report

The project would cost about $500 billion and OpenAI would own the equipment, with Nvidia backing 20 years of lease payments, the report said.

Summary
OpenAI is in talks to lease a proposed 10-gigawatt data center campus on federal land in Ohio, in a deal that could include financial backing from Nvidia, The Information reported on Tuesday, citing two people with direct knowledge of the discussions. The campus could cost at least $500 billion to build, based on current prices for chips, labor, power and other inputs, the report said. That would be about 15 times more than the $33 billion that federal officials has said would be needed to build a natural gas power plant in Pike County to power data centers there.
