Opec Expects Tighter Oil Market in 2026 Amid Increased Economic Momentum

OPEC raised its 2026 global oil demand forecast by 100,000 barrels per day while lowering the non-OPEC+ supply estimate by the same amount, citing stronger economies in key regions.

  • On Tuesday, OPEC increased its demand growth projection for next year to 1.38 million bpd while leaving its 2025 forecast at about 1.3 million bpd.
  • OPEC based the upward demand revision on expected stronger economies in OECD America, OECD Europe, the Middle East and Africa and cut its non-OPEC+ supply forecast for 2026 by 100,000 bpd.
  • Demand concerns, a slowing global economy and weak Chinese growth kept prices subdued, with Brent retreating 0.47 per cent to $66.32 a barrel on Tuesday.
  • Non-OPEC+ producers are projected to grow output by 600,000 bpd to 54.7 million bpd in 2026, following OPEC+'s July and September output increases.
  • OPEC maintained its 2026 economic growth projection at 3.1 per cent, saying `The global economy continues to follow a stable growth trajectory` despite risks.
