Ontario man charged for allegedly smuggling guns from U.S. into Canada

Daniel Menezes, a 24-year-old resident of Hamilton, was taken into custody in Burlington on April 16, 2025, and charged with 19 offences related to the illegal importation of firearms from the United States into Canada.
The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation started in March 2025 by the Ontario Provincial Police’s Border Enforcement Security Task Force and U.S. Homeland Security.
Menezes faces two counts each of importing unauthorized firearms and possession of prohibited devices, plus charges involving components for automatic firearms, and was remanded into custody.
An OPP spokesperson highlighted that illegal firearms generate substantial profits and are trafficked to criminals who use them to commit offenses across the border.
Menezes, who was taken into custody, is set to face charges in Milton’s Ontario Court on May 14, 2025, with no additional suspects found as the investigation has been completed.
