Uganda: DNA Test Shows Kadongo Kamu Legend Paul Job Kafeero Had Only 4 Children
Police said the verification exercise will help settle inheritance disputes over Kafeero’s music catalog, intellectual property and land after 21 claimants were excluded.
- On Thursday, Police Forensic Director AIGP Andrew Mubiru and Government Analytical Laboratory Director Kepher Kuchana Kateu released DNA results confirming only four of 25 claimants are biological children of the late musician Paul Job Kafeero.
- Bitter family feuds over the intestate musician's property prompted Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara to fund DNA testing for about 30 initial claimants, five of whom disappeared before sampling.
- While 21 claimants were scientifically excluded, AIGP Mubiru confirmed Benedict Kafeero, Simon Peter Kafeero, Tomas Kafeero, and Elizabeth Nagawa as biological heirs. "Science does not lie," Mubiru noted during the briefing.
- The confirmed heirs will present results to the Mengo Court to update records and establish their legal claim to Kafeero's estate, while the 21 excluded claimants face a significant legal blow barring future inheritance.
- These findings match earlier DNA tests conducted years ago, which some claimants previously rejected. Stella Nantongo, one of Kafeero's acknowledged children, described the exhumation as a "painful but unavoidable step" toward resolving the family's long-standing disputes.
