One Year In, JPMorganChase's Security and Resiliency Initiative Is Helping to Strengthen Industries Critical to Long-Term Economic Growth
The bank has already committed $230 billion in financing and may expand the program beyond its original $10 billion startup target, executives said.
- On Monday, JPMorgan Chase announced it invested more than $5 billion in equity during the first year of its Security and Resiliency Initiative, exceeding internal expectations by identifying opportunities in defense, manufacturing and supply chain sectors.
- CEO Jamie Dimon launched the initiative roughly a year ago after conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, along with trade friction over China, threatened U.S. energy supplies and critical defense components.
- The bank is taking direct equity stakes in startups including Hadrian, an automated-factory builder, and Castelion, a hypersonic missile maker, marking a strategic departure from its traditional lending role, co-president Doug Petno said.
- Beyond direct equity investments, JPMorgan has facilitated more than $230 billion in financing for industries supporting American national interests, aiming to reach $1.5 trillion over a decade while expanding into Europe and Canada.
- Jay Horine, head of the initiative's lending and advisory side, said the bank will focus on expanding industrial capacity and strengthening supply chains to support long-term economic resilience and national security.
