Apple Duo Folding Phone Tips: Screen Protection, Hinge Care, Magnets - Key Dos and Don'ts
Apple’s first folding phone reaches stores as rivals’ care guides warn buyers to protect the hinge, screen and preinstalled layer from debris and pressure.
- Apple's first folding phone, the Duo, arrives in stores on Friday, bringing flexible display technology to iPhone users.
- Folding screens are softer and more flexible than standard smartphone displays, making these devices significantly more vulnerable to damage and requiring greater user attention than traditional phones.
- Apple's vice president of hardware engineering, Kate Bergeron, confirmed the Duo features a replaceable cover layer; AppleCare lists the service price at $19.
- Hinge mechanisms have tiny gaps vulnerable to debris, prompting tech analyst Ben Wood of FDM CCS Insight to warn: "Don't take it to the beach—they don't like sand."
- Owners should purchase a protective case available from Amazon and avoid storing the Duo with metallic items like keys or coins, which device magnets can attract.
