‘Once-in-a-lifetime’ plant death bloom begins at Kew Gardens

Experts believe the agave montana planted around two decades ago is blooming as a result of climate change.

The death bloom of a rare plant has begun at London’s Kew Gardens.

The agave montana from Mexico was planted around 20 years ago and is expected to bloom with thousands of individual flowers next spring, before it dies. Botanists at Kew are hoping to cross-pollinate the species.
