The pole summit of the Olympic Stadium will not finally reopen in time for the 50th anniversary of the Montreal Games next summer, while the major renovation started in 2021 was to last only two years.

The idea had been to refit the Olympic stadium, including the observatory at the top of the tower, so that it would be open for the 50th anniversary of Montreal’s summer games. It’s entirely fitting, then, that the work won’t be completed in time, just as the tower wasn’t completed in time for the 1976 games – in fact, the observatory only opened in 1987.
